“Superwoman”—Lil Mo feat. Fabolous (2001)
“Appearing on Lil Mo’s ‘Superwoman’ was a great look for me because it led to a video, which was the first time people really got the chance to see how I looked. Mo actually heard me on a DJ Clue mixtape and reached out to him. She was asking him, ‘Who is this kid?’ She didn’t know much about me. She didn’t know I was from Brooklyn. All she knew was I could pull off these clever punchlines that were creative and funny to her. Clue of course reached out to me and we got the record done.
The ‘Superwoman’ video definitely heightened my popularity amongst the fans nationwide. Before this, my name had a buzz in New York City and throughout the mixtape circuit. But now I was actually on a bonafied hit single and in a video that was playing on MTV and BET. People now knew who I was. I wasn’t just the kid around the way who could rap anymore. Now you have somebody who was suddenly famous and has money. But I never let it get to my head because I figured I still had a lot to do. My album wasn’t out yet, so I definitely kept focused on what I had to do as an artist.”
