“Ruff Ryders Anthem remix” → DMX feat. Drag-On, Eve, Jadakiss, and Styles P (1998)
“It was simple as X needing verses for the ‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’ remix. The original song was huge, so we couldn’t wait to get on it. Everybody was in their corners in the studio writing—Drag-On, me over there, Styles over there, Eve over there. We were just getting it in. It was so easy because everyday we were together. We were doing the graveyard shift everyday in the studio.
We knew being a part of the Ruff Ryders was big when we went to a black music convention in Galveston, Texas. We got treated damn near like we were the Kennedy’s. Everybody in the Ruff Ryders [crew] was riding down the middle of the street and it seemed like the whole town of Galveston was following us! We were in a drop top car—the Lox, Eve, and X—and the love was like no other. And this was crazy for us because we had just come off of Bad Boy thinking there would be nothing higher than being with Biggie and Diddy. To leave there and go to Ruff Ryders, it was like, ‘Holy shit! What’s going on here?!!!’ The fans really wanted to be a part of our movement. It just made our transition smoother.”
