Good, Bad, Ugly: A Stylist Critiques Celeb Fashion Lines

Good, Bad, Ugly: A Stylist Critiques Celeb Fashion Lines

Courtney Garcia Posted February 20, 2013
While Wu Wear and FUBU may feel like ghosts of hip-hop past, celeb-pushed threads are hardly extinct. Designer/Stylist Ashton Hirota (Will.i.am, Adam Lambert, Fergie) evaluates which star frocks can live long and prosper

Lil Wayne | Trukfit
ASHTON HIROTA: Price point is cheap, but so are the designs. I think it’s an impersonation of Joyrich and Pharrell's Billionaire Boys Club. Generic, but it’s a younger market that eats up the idea of wearing something Lil Wayne had his hands on. I see dollar signs for now, but this ’90s throwback revival won’t last long.
Chris Brown | Black Pyramid, with Pink + Dolphin
ASHTON HIROTA: The line could use a boost. He’s always pushing the limits with his art. I wish I would see more of that translate into his presentation. If he paired the collaborative graphics with more fashionable silhouettes, it could do well.
Kanye West | DW For Women
ASHTON HIROTA: Kanye’s line is actually not bad. It’ll only get stronger. It’s lush, well designed and incredibly chic. Nothing makes an item hotter than if you can’t have it. Not that it’s totally unappeasable, but you won’t be picking this up at your local Piggly Wiggly.
Jennifer Hudson | QVC Line
ASHTON HIROTA: Catering to the plus size market is very in demand. Most of these women want to look stylish and sexy without being uncomfortable. The consumer will trust Jennifer’s opinion. If you’re on QVC, you can be selling tiger print Snuggies and Middle America will have a safari moment.
