Living Single: 10 Single Girl Anthems We Love

Living Single: 10 Single Girl Anthems We Love

Sowmya Krishnamurthy (... Posted February 14, 2013
Valentine’s Day. The dreaded holiday chock full of sappy Hallmark cards, sugary sweet candy and nauseating PDA at every turn (Get a room!) Feeling down about being single? Instead of giving your lovey dovey friends the side-eye and sub-tweeting every ex, celebrate your singledom and turn up with these anti-Valentine’s Day anthems.
Beyonce “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
Twerk it out with and shake your ring finger at every former flame that did you wrong. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” is the quintessential single girl anthem.

Mariah Carey “Shake It Off”
Like the Calgon commercial, get away with this classic, sassy Mariah cut. But unlike MC, don’t use V-Day to leave any incriminating voicemails on your ex’s machine.

Destiny’s Child “Independent Women”
Destiny’s Child’s’ recent Super Bowl performance reminded us how great “Independent Women” was. A super-charged anthem for the women who can hold their own. “When it’s all over, please get up and leave.” Tell ‘em, Bey.

Toni Braxton “He Wasn’t Man Enough”
There’s nothing worse than giving someone your sloppy seconds. Toni wasn’t mincing words with her sexy 2000 “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” Sorry, Robin Givens.

Britney Spears “Stronger”
Britney Spears will have you bringing out your inner sex kitten (and doing some impromptu chair dancing) with “Stronger.” Meow!

Natasha Bedingfield “Single”
Natasha Bedingfield was anything but subtle with “Single.” “All you single people out there, this is for you,” proclaims the sultry Brit singer. Play this 5 times and try not to feel empowered.

Mya feat. Silkk The Shocker “Movin’ On”
Get your 90s pom poms out for this retro classic. Who needs that cheating ass boyfriend when you can have Silkk The Shocker pick you up in a convertible? Move on and move my way…

TLC “No Scrubs”
Before thinking about drunk dialing that good-for-nothing ex in desperation, listen to TLC’s “No Scrubs.” If he fits any of the criteria in these, put the phone down, girl.

Kelly Clarkson “Since U Been Gone”
Bring out your inner girl rocker and belt this one out loud. Channel that rage to do some housekeeping while you’re at it. Old picture frames and memories? So gone.

Blaque “I’m Good”
We dug into the R&B vaults for this one. Blaque, Missy Elliott and Jessica Alba (aka Honey) join forces for a full-frontal assault on wack dudes. Perfect for group karaoke with your other single friends.
