Mateo Hosts Nema’s Boom Boom Room at The Caulfield

Mateo Hosts Nema’s Boom Boom Room at The Caulfield

Gerren Keith Gaynor Posted January 30, 2013
Krucial Noise/Interscope recording artist Mateo hosted Nema’s Boom Boom Room on Monday night in New York featuring MBK Entertainment artist Fame, singer Natalie Imani, and other musical guests. The artist showcase event, which takes place every other Monday at The Caulfield in Manhattan’s Flatiron district, was launched this month by celebrity-event planner Nema Kamar. Nema has been dubbed “New York’s queen of nightlife” having spearheaded special events for the likes of Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, and Rihanna.

The Caulfield was crammed with music lovers, industry notables, and athletes including Brooklyn Nets player Andray Blatche and NBA retiree Shaquille O’Neal. Joining Mateo on the hosting duties was comedian Mike Brown.

The night welcomed an array of musical performances. Folk-soul singer Ddendyl opened the night on piano with an Adele-esque interpretation of Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning.

Chicago singer, Ami, performed an original song and eclectic rendition of Miguel’s Do You fused with Prince’s Darling Nikki. Natalie Imani, who was featured in BET’s Music Matters showcase, also performed original material and a cover of Faith Evans’ “I Remember,” which led to an impromptu duet with Mateo.

Mateo, whose debut album is set to be released later this year, performed his latest project Sing About Me—a remake of the Kendrick Lamar tune—which premiered on VIBE earlier this month. Headlining Brooklyn artist, Fame, closed out the night with his turned up set, performing his distinctive blend of hip hop and soul. After the show wrapped, Shaq and Andray Blatche kept the music going with a pseudo rap battle. The two amusingly free-styled to Blow the Whistle and sang a bit of Blackstreet’s No Diggity. Nema’s Boom Boom Room was originally launched earlier this month with Elle Varner, and is intended to give upcoming artists a platform to showcase their music to the public and industry insiders.
