NBA Reveals New Christmas Day Uniforms
The NBA has revealed some bold new designs for Christmas Day this year. The BIG Color uniforms are a single, solid colorway with an alternate color stencil design that give these uniforms a very distinct look. It looks like some of the teams worked better than others - for instance, this Mavs look is a little drab, since they chose their alternate gray color as the main canvas instead of their more electric blue. But there are plenty more to check out - click through and see!
As soon as I heard about the BIG Color unis, I got excited remembering that the Brooklyn Nets would be playing on Christmas Day. Say what you will about the franchise, (and as a Knicks fan, I've got plenty to say) but they have one of the slickest uniform looks in the league already, thanks to a complete reformat and the help of Jay-Z. But this look is a little... disappointing. It seems like something that would work well with their all-black uniform, but instead it looks like someone drew with chalk on a plain T. The Celtics, meanwhile, look much better in their St. Patrick's Day uniforms.
Another miss, at least for the Knicks. The new Knicks uniforms were a welcome change and a much better look, but this weird all-orange version makes them look more like the Phoenix Suns than anything. But that Laker jersey - oh man, I like it. No gold in sight, and yet they look positively regal with purple on white. Kobe and co. will look awesome as they try to jell with new coach Mike D'Antoni.
The Heat jerseys look almost the same as their regular jerseys - maybe the absence of black is the most noticeable aspect. But the Thunder look is great - I love orange on blue, and it looks someone more electric with the stencil style. Also, what an awesome game - Kevin Durant vs. LeBron James in a 2012 Finals rematch.
Again, the Bulls uniform is not SO different from their regular duds. But the Rockets look like they were sent back from the future to steal other team's fan favorites (cough James Harden and Jeremy Lin cough), with a very striking silver. The only thing I don't like about this look? The typeface. It somehow looks like it's from last decade, which clashes with the rest of the look.
Two wins here. The Grizzlies' change to this periwinkle blue color in the last few years was a great move, and the Spurs new gray uniforms are great already - this just maximizes what works.
And two more wins to close it out. I think the Jazz uniform is the best of the bunch. The logo looks great, the yellow-on-navy works well, and nothing gets lost in the monochromatic look. The Pacers jersey isn't bad either, if you like yellow. It looks like the inverse of the Jazz, with more of a bumblebee flavor.
