Chicago is part of an elite circle of cities that can be equated with a rich music genre heritage. Just like Detroit is deemed the birthplace of techno, Chicago can proudly proclaim it is the home of house music. That pride can be felt throughout the city’s nightclubs such as Smart Bar (which has just celebrated its 30th anniversary) and Spybar, both of which consistently books underground house heavy hitters such as Frankie Knuckles and Cajmere. For the second year in a row, it was felt dancing on the sand among fellow house-heads to the best beats in the industry at Wavefront Music Festival.

The festival weaved together different styles of electronic music that both satiated the festivalgoers’ varied musical tastes and also highlighted DJs with raw talent. Whether grooving to nu-disco and deep house at Wolf+Lamb and Soul Clap’s Crew Love Stage, checking out the unique hip-hop stylings of Paper Cha$ers, and of course witnessing house music legends at the Chicago Heritage stage including Mr. Knuckles and hometown faves Dennis Carter vs. Mark Farina, every stage was poised to deliver a unique musical experience.
