Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2013 kicks off this week, and the party savants of Insomniac Events promise this year’s sold-out "American Ibiza" will be the biggest and brightest to date. The original conception of the-now famous Electronic Daisy Carnival had humble beginnings. Borrowing the name from a popular underground rave party from the early ‘90s, Pasquale Rotella, co-founder of Insomniac Events, resurrected the fan-favorite rager with the first annual EDC at Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles in 1997. The festival/carnival hybrid offered the best electronic music on big sound systems, accompanied with carnival-like elements: rides (EDC's signature Ferris Wheel), acrobatics, fireworks and lavishly costumed performers.
Since then, the once underground rave party has grown dramatically into a huge, multi-location, 300,000+ behemoth globetrotting festival. Now the largest electronic music festival outside of Europe, EDC continues to expand its empire across the United States.
VIBE compiled a list of photographs from EDC, dating all the way back to the early ‘90s. Join us for a trippy trip through the years of Electric Daisy Carnival. →
