Preview: Bob Marley’s EDM Album Will Turn Up Summer ‘Jamming’

/ May 28, 2013

Why would anyone deign to make an EDM remix version for one of the most treasured reggae albums of all time? Numbers don’t lie; Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Legend sold over 40 million copies globally, and today’s EDM artists hope to bring a fresh new energy and flavor to it. Reggae purists will surely be a bit pissed off with anyone touching it. Albeit, both Ziggy and Stephen Marley not only approved their revolutionary father’s masterpiece getting the EDM treatment, both did some of their own remixes. Other brave souls who took on the challenge of reworking what many deem musical perfection—including, Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation and Jason Bentley, to name a few—at the very least deserve props for their guts and gusto, love it or hate it.

Bob Marley’s message was always one of freedom—moreover the lyrics (“won’t you help me sing, these songs of freedom”) from “Redemption Song” was the final tune Marley wrote from his deathbed. Keep an open mind as VIBE sheds light with a rundown of what to expect from Legend, Remixed because without growth, art is dead. There is no denying Bob Marley will live on forever through his songs. Now see topnotch producers take on this daring remix enterprise so they too can be part of Marley’s musical legacy. —@SarahPolonsky
