"Baby I'm A Star"
"I Would Die 4 U" segues right into "Baby I'm A Star." This was a great song to play live, We would do these big long jams during the Purple Rain tour. Prince would bring Sheila E's band up onstage with us and he would do all the coded hand signals I talked about. Everybody would stop on the 1. It was that James Brown, hit me two times, five times thing. One time he screamed, "21 hits" and we all had to hit it all. There's all these parts that come and go on the keyboards and it culminates in the but Doctor Fink solo at the end of "Baby I'm A Star." I came up with that solo live at the First Avenue gig. "Baby I'm A Star" sounds like this big grinding orchestra with all these cool interludes and that James Brown energy. And hearing Prince [shout-out] my name on the song meant a lot to me. He was basically saying, "Here's my go-to guy...the Doctor!"
