Radio Killa! Hip-Hop's 10 Wildest On-Air Confrontations
What Happened: In 2005, Jadakiss and Styles P of the LOX went on Angie Martinez's show and, during the course of the interview, discussed how they were extremely unhappy with the way Diddy treated them during their time with Bad Boy Records. As a result, Diddy called in to confront them about their issues with him.
What Was Said: "He's so much of a gangsta with the paperwork. He'll tell you one thing and then he'll tell his lawyer or people that represent him something else."—Jadakiss
What Came Out Of It: Initially, Diddy got frustrated and hung up after arguing with Jada and Sheek for several minutes. However, cooler heads prevailed later (and no refrigerator
What Happened: Diddy is no stranger to beefing on the radio. During an interview on Atlanta's V103 in October 2009, Mase actually made his way down to the station to ask Puff to sign an appearance release form that would allow him to appear on other artists' songs and confronted him right in the middle of the interview.
What Was Said: "He has the freedom to go do whatever he wants to do."—Diddy
What Came Out Of It: This is easily the tamest "confrontati
What Happened: In 2004, Hot 97's morning show staff asked Mase about his relationship with Cam and Jones and, after he answered, Jones called into the radio station to clarify some of the statements before unleashing one of the most memorable Jim Jones' rants of all-time.
What Was Said: "You smiling? Ain't nothing funny, man. I'll put some dentures in your mouth, boy. They know me here now. You've been gone a long time. It's Dipset for real, Byrd Gang, swerve on you. Go back down South to your congregation and preach. Go give your wife a kiss, go get some kids, 'cause this is the wolf territory."
What Came Out Of It: It took about five years, but Jones did apologize for screaming on Mase on the radio later. Cam also reunited with him later and the pair worked together again.
What Happened: After Charlamagne hopped on Power 105's The Breakfast Club and named Diddy the "Donkey of the Day" because he didn't like Dirty Money's Last Train To Paris album, Diddy (are we sensing a pattern here?!) called into the show to address the situation. The two had also talked about the incident before he made his appearance.
What Was Said: "Your ass is gettin' on that train!"—Diddy
What Came Out Of It: Once Diddy and Charlamagne cleared the air and agreed to disagree about the LTTP album, Diddy showed plenty of love to The Breakfast Club—and vice versa.
What Happened: During an interview with Kat Stacks on Shade 45's VIP Saturdays last April, hosts Kimmi CupCakes and DJ Self put Nelly onto the phone (without Kat knowing it was him) to ask her a few questions to verify some of the stories she'd told about him.
What Was Said: "What's the name of the hotel with your lyin' ass?"—Nelly
What Came Out Of It: Nelly proved that Kat Stacks may have been lying when she said that she had a two-month sexual relationship with him in the past. We got really confused during a parts of this—somehow the fact that Nelly kept saying "sweetheart" instead of "honey" became relevant during the conversation—but, for the first time, Kat sounded like she didn't have all of her facts straight.
What Happened: After 50 made some disparaging comments about Koch Records during an interview with Angie Martinez in February 2007, Fif and Killa got into a heated argument about the fact that Cam's Diplomats are signed to the label.
What Was Said: "You talking about Koch is a graveyard, you just let your man come over here."—Cam'Ron
What Came Out Of It: The interview ended with Cam yelling, "Cuuuuuurrrr
What Happened: Shortly before Nas released his album, Hip-Hop Is Dead, Monie Love had Jeezy on as a guest on 100.3 The Beat in Philadelphia and asked him if he thought hip-hop music was dead. He became angry quickly after she insisted that it was and an argument between the two ensued.
What Was Said: "So, what I do is not hip-hop?"—Young Jeezy
What Came Out Of It: Young Jizzle actually walked out of the studio at one point and, just a few days later, Monie Love was let go by the station due to a stalled contract negotiation.
What Happened: Here's some vintage radio beef between rappers. Eazy-E wasn't too fond of Death Row as a label and let it be known during a radio interview with 103.5 The Beat in Los Angeles back in 1993. Then, half of Death Row's roster got on the phone to talk trash to Eazy.
What Was Said: "Talk like you got some sense. Don't get on the phone tripping. Now speak."—Eazy E
What Came Out Of It: The incident certainly didn't help the relations between Eazy-E and Dr. Dre at all as the two continued to bang heads until Eazy-E's death in 1995.
What Happened: Sigel and Gillie beefed for years—both on and off records—as both of them tried to claim the "King of Philly" title. But it all escalated during this intense showdown on Philly's Power 99 a few years ago, where Gillie became infuriated and questioned Beanie's character.
What Was Said: "You know you ain't never, never could touch me boy. Anytime I'm around you ain't no gorilla killa no more. I know you, dog. Don't come at us. I know you. You was nobody before this rap game, nobody!"—Gillie da Kid
What Came Out Of It: The beef between these two continued until they were finally able to squash it and move past it in 2008.
What Happened: In November 2009, 'Bis agreed to be on GL's Invasion radio show on Sirius Satellite's Shade 45 alongside Keith Murray to promote their Undergods album. But when it came time for him to freestyle, he starting talking in a Jamaican accent and explaining why he didn't want to kick any rhymes on that particular night.
What Was Said: "It's a game to you. I've been doing shows for four weeks and then I come up here and you just look at me like, 'Yo, spit something,' like I have a blood clot drawcord in my back or something."—Canibus
What Came Out Of It: In the end, 'Bis didn't give in and refused to rap—despite the fact that he was there to promote, well, how well he raps. Just goes to show you that anything can go down on hip-hop radio.
