Kuduro - Angola
Tropical Bass producers often try their hand at Kuduro, but it is the voice of the streets in Angola's capital, Luanda. Produced in its shanty towns and spread by cabbies, the genre is a blend of house and techno featuring hyperactive MC mixed with styles that have a long history in the country like zouk and semba. Buraka Som Systema did a huge service to the sound by helping bring it to the world, and reggaeton star Don Omar even took influence from the style for his inescapable hit "Danza Kuduro" alongside Portuguese artist Lucenzo. Although afro house has become a recent obsession in the country, Kuduro remains strong and is finding acceptance among the wider society there. Cabo Snoop is probably the biggest name in Kuduro, and he's pushed the sound into housier territories.
