Timbaland vs. Blackground Records
Timbaland’s feud with Blackground Records went beyond a lawsuit; the hit-making producer claimed the label tried to blacklist him out of a career by embarking on a McCarthy-esque sabotage campaign, contacting record companies with reasons why they shouldn’t work with Timbaland. He claimed Blackground, the label once home to Aaliyah and headed by her uncle Barry Hankerson, acted in jealousy and hostility when he successfully went from an artist to a producer, and that they owed him money. Blackground and Timbaland eventually parted ways, and Timbaland remained with signed to their distribution label at the time, Interscope.
