Toni Braxton vs. Blackground Records
Toni Braxton’s feud with Blackground Records founder Barry Hankerson was both public and expensive. The R&B singer claimed Hankerson, who also served as her manager, owed her $10 milion, as he caused her relationship with Arista Records to sour before she signed with him. Hankerson claimed she was dropped by Arista for a lack of record sales, and that her desire to involve her husband in her music is what really caused her fallout with Blackground. Hankerson countersued for $1 million and only a partial contract release, but the two eventually settled out of court, and Toni was released from the agreement. She went on to sign with Atlantic.
