Jill Scott vs. Hidden Beach Records
Steve McKeever of Hidden Beach Records didn’t appreciate being dropped by Jill Scott, who he said he’d helped nurture and develop into a Grammy-winning recording artist. Hidden Beach claimed Jill Scott skipped out three albums early on a six album contract, and the label sued for damages and millions lost. What’s more, McKeever even claimed he personally invested in the soul singer’s career by buying her lavish gifts and financing projects that weren’t under contract. Jill countersued the label’s claims, and went on to release The Light of the Sun under a new distribution deal with Warner Brothers Records.
