V Playlist: 2 Chainz, FCF, Deon Young And More
VIBE's Daily Additions to the 'Pod
1. 2 CHAINZ - "KARATE CHOP (TIM WESTWOOD FREESTYLE)
2 Chainz may be the the epitome of ratchet, but we love it. The ATL rapper made a pit stop by Tim Westwood's "Crib Sessions" while on tour in Europe, and gave fans a new freestyle to rock out to. The rapper made a few jokes about Westwood's setup of the vinyl records, neon lights and the smoke, but the best part was when he said "Fuck everybody" before he went into his "Karate Chop" freestyle. The freestyle matches 2 Chainz statement as he raps about karate chopping your mama, people not being around when he needed them, and of course his chains.
2. FCF - "NEW YORK CITY"
New York City Stand Up! FCF (consisting of 360 & K-Star) are bringing a new flavor to the hip-hop scene and making sure that people know that NYC rappers are a force to be reckoned with. New York is a tough, fast-moving jungle, but it's quite obvious that FCF have survived it enough to school those that don't know about it. This duo rap about the real life struggles of New York City and making it out here. "New York City" is featured on FCF's mixtape, Till Death.
3. DEON YOUNG - "MAD RESPECT"
It's been quite some time since someone showed some respect for the DJ's putting in work for up-and-coming artists. Deon Young has fully recognized that as much as DJ's need artists to release music, artists need DJ's to play their music. He decided to release "Mad Respect," and this R&B joint will have you getting it in at the club. The bass on this single is banging and the lyrics are definitely catchy.
4. THE BULLITTS x YASIIN BEY x JAY ELECTRONICA x LUCY LIU - "THEY DIE BY DAWN"
This single is one of the hottest tracks out right now, hands down. It starts out with a Western movie vibe, and two minutes and some change into the track, Yasiin Bey and Jay Electronica rip it apart. Two of the illest lyricists Hip-Hop has seen, along with The Bullitts, have made a creation that can't be replaced—not to mention Lucy Liu gives it a nice touch as well. "They Die By Dawn" is the lead single on They Die By Dawn and And Other Short Films, which is the soundtrack to the short film, They Die By Dawn. The soundtrack is due out June 4th, so look out for it.
5. DJ PREMIER - "B-DAY MIX"
Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds made a very good point on their show the other day: we never pay tribute to those that are still alive. In honor of DJ Premier's 47th birthday, Rosenberg and Sounds put together this mix of DJ Premier's best work. The 1/2 of Gang Starr truly contributed more than most to Hip-Hop history. This mix definitely took us way back.
