VIBE Report Card: How Did Kanye Do on Keeping Up With The Kardashians?
This season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians was chock full o’ reality gold from Kourtney having her adorable baby girl to Rob crying like a baby in therapy and the entire family enjoying fun in the sun in the Dominican Republic (where they also shot that horrendous Notorious B.I.G. karaoke video that we’d rather forget). One of the most talked-about cast additions this season was Kim’s new booski Kanye. Mr. West’s appearances, albeit sporadic, kept us glued to the tube. We break down his performance. --Sowmya Krishnamurthy (@SowmyaK)
Play Your Position: A
One of the most surprising things about Kanye was how subdued he was when the reality cameras rolled. The guy who, in the past, has made Presidents SMH and forced little Country singers to tears was mostly tight-lipped and spoke rarely. Who are you and what have you done with Kanye? Maybe he was trying to give his girl shine. After all, it’s not called Keeping Up With Kim and Kanye …yet. We’re sure Kris Jenner is finalizing those deal documents as we speak.

Control Freak: B+
Though he was short on words, Kanye looked great during the season and gave the show a fresh, high-fashion feel. Our only beef was when he shoved his sartorial sensibilities down Kim’s throat (Okay, this sounds gross. Bad metaphor) and forced her to revamp her closet so he could re-style her. We love that Kim’s taking more fashion risks but something about that whole scene was a little more heavy-handed than we’d like. Kim has made more money sellinglow cut club clothes fashions than Kanye. The girl can dress herself!

It’s hard to stand out in a rambunctious Kardashian/Jenner melange but we can’t believe how Kanye was even overshadowed by supplementary characters like Scott Disick and Jonathan Cheban. Who? Exactly. Where is that spitfire we’ve come to know and love?

Family Guy: A+
The foundation of the show--and why Keeping Up With The Kardashians continues to work season after season—is family and Kanye seemed to fit in very well with the mixed group. He brought her family and friends to the Watch The Throne concert in London and attended several family occasions (e.g. Scott’s restaurant opening, Kourt’s baby shower). Even the most discerning Kardashian, Khloe, couldn’t help but give Kanye the thumbs-up of approval.
