VIBE's Weekly Kick Picks: Gourmet Footwear Edition
It's that time of the week again! VIBE Kick Picks is bringing you our weekly sneaker favorites on the streets of New York City.
This week, we had the pleasure of stopping by Gourmet Footwear's Fall/Winter 2012 Preview at The Spotted Pig in NYC. If you aren't already on it, Gourmet is one of the hottest sneaker companies, founded in 2005 by Jon Buscemi, Greg Johnsen, and Greg Lucci, with designs heavy in camo print & skater-inspired detail.
We couldn't photograph the entire line for the year (it's not ready for the full world premiere yet), but we can tell you with confidence that you will not be disappointed with what they have in store for upcoming releases!
We did however get a chance to bring you the Spring/Summer 2012 line, and spoke with Gourmet co-founder Jon Buscemi to talk about what inspired each design. Here's the first sneaker:
The Shoe: Uno (Camo/Papyrus)
The Story: "It's basically inspired by the classic 90s basketball shoe. It has an open side panel, and three panels altogether—all with imported Italian camo suede."

The Shoe: The 35 AP (Cheetah)
The Story: "[This is] an older model for us—one of the classics in our line. It's a cross-training inspiration. We paired it with an imported cheetah suede. Super-light technical outsole, a heel stabilizer, and wax cotton shoelaces."

The Shoe: The Dignam
The Story: "It's inspired by classic running shoes, again on a super lightweight technical outsole. The actual inspiration for the upper is from an ER bootie. The shoe is called the "Dignam" after Mark Wahlberg's character in The Departed. In the last scene, he kills Matt Damon's character, and he's wearing ER booties. We got really inspired by that look of footwear.
