VIBE: Ken, do you listen to hip-hop and rap?
Jeong: Oh yeah, I pride myself in liking all different types of music. I grew up in North Carolina actually and there’s country music there, but I really grew up on rock and classic rock, but I love hip-hop and have my mixtape on when I’m jogging or working out. I got some Kanye...
Curren$y: You got some Van Halen?
Jeong: I got some Jay-Z, some Van Halen.
Curren$y: Some hair bands?
Jeong: Some hair bands to hip-hop and rap. I got some Kid Cudi on there…
Curren$y: You’re getting stoned. You can hide it if you want to, Chow, but I’m pretty sure I know what’s going on.
Jeong:I love how Curren$y’s like, 'You can hide behind Chow, son, but I know the truth! You know, I respect you being a doctor, and you gotta be all legit and you gotta be like street legit, a legitimate businessman, but I know if you’re going to play a character that crazy, you are the devil.' I think that’s what Curren$y’s saying to me (laughs).
VIBE: You sang a little bit of R. Kelly in Hangover 3, do you think if Curren$y were to ask you to hop on a track, you would do it?
Jeong: Oh, I would totally hop on a track!
Curren$y: What I would like is to make a song from your vocal styles in the elevator in [Hangover 2.
Jeong: Oh, thanks for the shoutout on that! A little “Time in a Bottle” action.
Curren$y: That was all you! You definitely showed range.
Jeong: Actually, I did a music video like seven years ago and one of my best friends, this guy named Mike O’Connell, we did a hip-hop group called Million Dollar Strong. It was all like comedy stuff. If you look it up on Youtube, it’s called, “What’s It Gonna Be” and I sang the hook to that track. I was in the silver suit and it was just this weird stuff. My friend was like, 'I couldn’t find a chick to sing the hook, so I hired this Asian guy and the whole time I was like (sings) “What’s it gonna be” just being stupid.
VIBE: Curren$y, you’ve got your new signee to Jet Life Records right here.
Curren$y: Absolutely, I’m trying to see if I should get him solo or the group. What’s the name of the group?
Jeong: Million Dollar Strong.
Curren$y: Okay, now I just think I’m probably going to sign you independently.
Jeong: (laughs) My friend Mike, who wrote all those songs, would love this. He would love the fact that I’m having this conversation with you right now.
Curren$y: We gon' have to do somethin'. Don’t even worry about it. You get Mike ready. We gon' put the video on VIBE.com.
Jeong: Oh, that would be awesome.
