Inaugural EDMBiz Grant Honors EDM’s Female Entrepreneurs
Let’s face it, the EDM biz is mainly a boy’s club (have you seen the list of '50 Most Powerful People In EDM'? Not one woman!). That why SkyLight, a non-profit organization founded by artist manager Stephanie LaFera (pictured above) and media professional Kerri Mason, have stepped in to help support female entrepreneurs in electronic dance music with its inaugural EDMBiz Grant. The 2013 recipients (a.k.a. women you better recognized) are as follows:
• KARA DAKE, digital strategist and NYU Stern School of Business MBA. Her startup Signalfy aims to become the go-to community platform for discovering, promoting, and sharing electronic dance music events online.
• ALEXA AHREM, Temple University BBA. She co-founded EastSideElectro, a local Philadelphia event, promotion, and merchandise company, now looking to expand.
• AMANDA HO, SUNY Geneseo graduate and founder of Electrify, an online culture magazine. Her creative agency Ace & Arrow leverages a collective of artists and photographers to create cross-platform content for EDM artists, record labels and other entities.
