PRAS: He doesn’t know how to govern. I know his patriotism and love for Haiti is unwavering. But I think his candidacy was reckless. Just bringing celebrities to Haiti with a Haitian flag on your back and yelling “Haiti!” is not enough. You can’t run around thinking you the Messiah or Superman.
MELKY: What is “qualified” to be president of Haiti? I think number one, you have to have a love for the country, first and foremost. Your love should not be for money, your love should not be for publicity, your love should be number one for the country of Haiti. And I remember being a little girl in 1996 when my brother wrapped himself in the flag, when no one else was saying they were Haitian. When being Haitian wasn’t cool, when he was getting beat up in school, and he had this platform to get up there and make it all about himself and say, “Hey, I was won a Grammy,” he made it about his country. I think that’s the first qualification.
