Rapper, actor and director Ice Cube is going from a good day to “C’mon, make my day.”

Having kept busy in mostly comedic and family film roles over the last few years, Cube is about to seriously sleuth up and he’s leaving the kiddies behind.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting is that Cube and his Three Kings director David O. Russell are looking to create a new film franchise. The movie would star Ice Cube as a tough, kick-ass plainclothes detective in a raw, edgy R-rated drama in the same vein as 70s revenge films like Dirty Harry and Death Wish.

The untitled film project is still in development, so there is no word on story details. It’s not even yet known if Ice Cube’s copper will be based Los Angeles, the rapper’s hometown.—Ronke Idowu Reeves

So what do you think?  After softening his former N.W.A. persona in his latter movies do you think audiences can accept a movie return to Cube’s original hardcore image?
