ATLANTA, GA (Sept. 29, 2010) -- On October 1, 2010, The League of Young Voters Education Fund (LYVEF) will kick-off the BET Hip-Hop Awards weekend with IGNITE 2010: From the Blogs to the Blocks – a forward-thinking event that discusses the important issues in our communities through hip-hop, new media and civic action. The event will take place from 3pm–8pm EST at the W Atlanta Hotel Downtown (45 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd, Atlanta, GA 30308) and will feature:
Discussions will be lead by one of IGNITE 2010’s moderator Erica Williams (Deputy Director of Progress 2050 at Center for American Progress) and will feature urban journalists, celebrities, non-profit leaders and grassroots activists as they look to bridge hip-hop, new media and civic participation to stay connected with our communities.
“This is the ultimate opportunity to have creative dialogue on issues that matter in our world, and come up with organic and realistic solutions for the 2010 mid-term elections and beyond,” says Robert “Biko” Baker, Executive Director of LYVEF. “The opportunity to engage and interact with like-minded tastemakers and the community will be one of the key components of IGNITE 2010.”
As the official media sponsor, VIBE will be hosting a live Ustream session on VIBE.com where readers can view all IGNITE 2010 activities. VIBE will also be tweeting live throughout IGNITE 2010, to give followers an up-to-date progress.
“We are honored to partner up with LYVEF and be apart of this social movement,” says Chloe Hilliard, Managing Editor of VIBE and VIBE.com. “Our goal [along with LYVEF] is to deliver a powerful event that will inspire our demographic to become involved and engaged in the civic process and build an advocacy for urban issues.”
