Yves Saint Laurent ads pop up in subway stations.

Very few train station advertisements, post, or ad campaigns ever make me want to stop, reverse, do a double take and simply stare in au. I usually want to get out of the train station as fast as possible if you know what I mean. This weekend in true New York style, I was rushing through the train station at 34th, and I noticed a striking image of Naomi Campbell posing in the YSL fall/winter ad campaign. I immediately took out my digital camera and started taking pictures like a straight up tourist. I also added the image to my blackberry home screen image ( hey I like it a lot, sue me! ).

Sadly legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent died on June 1st 2008 at the age of 71. He is definitely one of my fav designers. Seeing YSL ready to wear all over the train station seemed a bit out of place to me, but anything that takes my attention away from my surroundings while underground can only be applauded. Now seeing Campbell in this ad didn’t shock me because YSL was the first designer to show love to black models. He helped Naomi get her first Vogue cover in 1987 and here she is 20 years later showing that same love to YSL.
