Based on a True Story
Born and raised in the Boogie Down Bronx NYC, Sheri Sher became a founding member of the now-legendary Mercedes Ladies, the first all-female MC and DJ crew in the history of hip hop. Coming up in the late 1970s meant constantly overcoming obstacles that were a product of her environment and daring to enter an all-male arena during the birth of Hip Hop.
The Mercedes Ladies presented nothing more or less than raw talent as female entertainers who were truly before their time. Eventually gaining as much respect in the streets as they did on stages, The Mercedes Ladies performed alongside living lengends like DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde, The Cold Crush Brothers, Grand Wizard Theodore, The Funky 4+1, and the list goes on. They were featured on the classic Hip Hop record "Come Rock to Donald’s Groove" by Donald Dee, produced by Grandmaster Flash.
Sheri has crossed paths with some of the biggest movers and shakers in the Hip Hop industry from MCs to DJs to CEOs. All the hard work and experience were the raw ingredients to develop the perfect recipe for her first novel—to satisfy the hunger for the truth. The role real females played in Hip Hop is a long way from the recent media stereotypes… If you don’t already know… read it. Now ya know!
A gritty, riveting novel based on the true adventures of the first all-female MC and DJ crew in hip hop history, Mercedes Ladies is an unforgettable tale of innocence lost and sisterhood found—the Dream Girls of Hip Hop.

I ran across this novel at a book fair in Indianapolis, after reading just the first couple of chapters, I was hooked! I was shown a side of hip-hop that I never even knew existed. I mean, "Mercedes Ladies" was not only informative and historically accurate, but it was actually hot! It gave a lot of real industry inside scoop that you may have never heard before about some of the most famous and original Hip-Hop icons (like Grandmaster Flash, The Cold Crush brothers & many more. I would love to see this novel made into a film!
I could not put it down!!! 5 out of 5 stars!!! *****
