There has been a terrible tragedy at the new World Trade Center Memorial Towers.

News outlets are reporting that a 37 year-old construction worker at the site fell about six feet before landing on a two-inch thick piece of rebar, which punctured the left side of his body. He was quickly rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he is said to be recovering. The man’s name has not yet been released.

The NY Post also reports shattered glass fell from the 54th story of one of the tower buildings.

Shattered glass showered down from the 54th floor of accident-plagued 4 World Trade Center yesterday when a crane lifting a 24-ton steel truss tilted and smashed windows, just one day after a worker was impaled at the site, officials said.

The WTC buildings are expected to be completed by the fall of 2013.
