Tay-K Pleads Not Guilty In Capital Murder Trial, Faces Life In Prison

Texas rapper Tay-K has pleaded guilty to an aggravated robbery charge but pleaded not guilty to the murder of 21-year-old Ethan Walker.

Tay-K, birth name Taymor McIntyre, was in court Tuesday (July 16) for Walker's murder, who was killed during a botched home invasion in 2016. The rapper pleaded not guilty to capital murder and to a separate count of aggravated robbery for the robbery and shooting of Walker’s roommate, Zachary Beloate.

The Star-Telegram reports Beloate survived the shooting after he was shot in the shoulder. Tay-K was 16 at the time of the shooting but was determined the teen would stand trial as an adult. He's one of seven defendants accused in the robbery and fatal shooting.

While prosecutors have claimed Tay-K moved will intention to kill (he and two other defendants rushed into the home with guns), Jeff Kearney of Tay-K's defense attorneys said the rapper only intended to participate in a robbery.

Two young women reportedly approached Tay-K with plans to rob Beloate and Walker's home, believing Beloate was in possession of drugs and money. With one of the female defendants being the girlfriend of Belotate's, Tay and two of his friends were given the address where they found Walker and his girlfriend Alyssa Rowell playing video games.

Kearney said the rapper has accepted responsibility for his actions but had no intentions to kill Walker.

Tay-K is known for his song "The Race" that highlights the incident and went viral as he was on the run from the police. The track was met with praise and a slot on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also featured in Donald Glover's hit series, Atlanta.

The rapper is also charged in a second capital murder case that occurred while on the run. McIntyre reportedly robbed and fatally shot 23-year-old Mark Saldivar. He also attacked and robbed 65-year-old Skip Pepe before he was captured in New Jersey in April 2017.

R. Kelly Held Without Bail, Pleads Not Guilty To Sexual Misconduct Charges

R. Kelly was ordered without bond at a hearing in federal court after prosecutors deemed him a danger to young women.

The Chicago Times reports Kelly would not receive bail due to his "unique ability to influence and intimidate witnesses and victims, and that continues to this day,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Angel Krull told Judge Harry Leinenweber on Tuesday (July 16).

Prosecutors at the hearing in U.S. District Court in Chicago also explained to Leinenweber Kelly's ability to reach young women through colleagues and friends without directly speaking to them. Kelly's Chicago charges mirror his recent indictments in New York which include sexual misconduct and the production of child pornography. Kelly faces a combined 18 counts for alleged crimes against 10 victims.

But his defense has argued the once awarded singer isn't a flight risk due to his literal fear of flying. “Unlike his most famous song, ‘I Believe I Can Fly,’ Mr. Kelly doesn’t like to fly,” Kelly's lawyer Steve Greenberg said.

“How could he flee? He has no money. The money’s in concerts and he doesn’t play concerts these days. There’s no evidence that he’s a risk to minors at all at this point." He also claimed his celebrity might put him in danger behind bars. “The man’s entitled to be held in a humane situation. Mr. Kelly is a difficult person to have [at the facility] because of other prisoners … because of his notoriety.”

Other defendants in his Chicago case include Kelly’s longtime manager, Derrel McDavid, and Kelly employee Milton “June” Brown.

Kelly faces a maximum prison sentence of 195 years in Chicago and a mandatory minimum of 10 years in New York.

In unsurprising fashion, Kelly's live-in girlfriends Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary were at the hearing to support Kelly. Both women met the singer when they were in their teens and hoped to work with Kelly to further their music careers. Their parents believed their daughters were brainwashed by the singer, causing them to cut off contact from family and friends.

Man Caught With $34,000 Worth Of Cocaine Under His Toupee

A Colombian man thought outside of the box when he taped $34,000 worth of cocaine to his head and hid it under his wig. The man, who authorities have not yet identified, almost pulled a fast one until authorities at Barcelona Internation Airport noticed something...off.

Dubbed "Operation Toupee." officers reportedly found "a perfectly sealed package taped to his head” because the hairpiece was "disproportionate size.”

"There is no limit to the inventiveness of drug traffickers trying to mock controls,” police said in a statement.

While attempting to smuggle cocaine under a wig may be a first, men and women acting on behalf of a larger drug trafficking ring is as old as time. According to The New York Post, cops in Barcelona stopped a man who had cocaine taped to his stomach, and it was then he confessed to swallowing 35 condoms filled with the drug.

Other bizarre drug smuggling hideaways have included a woman's breast implants, a hollowed-out pineapple, a wheelchair cushion and a plaster cast on a man’s leg.
