Behind The Mixtape: Big Sean Breaks Down ‘Famous’
When Big Sean faithfully stopped Kanye West at his local radio station in Detroit, his dreams of becoming famous were the least of his concerns. In reality, the last breakthrough rap artist from the Motor City was Eminem. Still, Sean went right into a 16-bar verse as he spotted ‘Ye coming through the station’s doorway. Two years later, Big Sean was officially signed to G.O.O.D. Music.
“You have to treat every look you get like it’s your first and last one, that’s some of the best advice Kanye has given me,” says the 22-year-old Detroit native from his hotel room in Los Angeles. Last Tuesday, Sean dropped the third installment of his Finally Famous mixtape series with DJ Don Cannon. Boasting 17 tracks and guest features from the likes of Bun B, Drake, Mike Posner, Curren$y, we asked Sean to dissect FF3’s most notable collabos. —Mikey Fresh
