J. Cardim Talks Producing Joe Budden Posse Cut 'Remember The Titans'
As the growing anticipation for Joe Budden’s fourth installment of his Mood Muzik anthology continues to clutter the rap blogosphere, the Jersey native leaked his most tweeted about collabo “Remember The Titans,” a posse cut featuring punchline kings Lloyd Banks, Fabolous and Royce Da 5’9, on Monday.
VIBE tracked down J. Cardim—the song’s producer—in New York City for the back story on how the record manifested.
“I made that beat in ’07 and I really didn’t even get a chance to play the beats that I specifically made for Joe,” says J. Cardim, whose portfolio boasts productions for Akon, Ludacris, and The Lox. “He knew it was the one as soon as he opened the e-mail up. I just had to go back in and spice it up.”
While the record’s original roster only included Banks and Fabolous, Joe’s obsessive Twitter usage led fellow Slaughterhouse member Royce Da 5’9" to step up to the plate.
“Joe was putting the pressure on everybody. He wanted to get everyone that was considered a mixtape monster when they were coming up,“ Cardim adds. “I actually heard Joe Budden’s final verse for the first time when [DJ] Envy played it on the radio. I can’t even tell you who went in the hardest.”
The burgeoning producer says he went back several times to lengthen the track to accommodate the guest stars' unwillingness to trim their verses. He built bridges specifically to cater to each MC’s tone.
The NY beatsmith has worked closely with Budden on his forthcoming album and contributed five tracks to Mood Muzik 4’s digital version (6 to the hard copy); both formats are slated for an Oct. 26 release.
Cardim also produced the Big Boi-assisted "Old School" for Sheek Louch’s upcoming Def Jam debut, out in December. —Mikey Fresh
