John Legend Kicksoff "50 Days of Giving"
'Tis the season of giving, and John Legend is no stranger to that doing just that.
The contemporary R&B artist has joined forces with Western Union to launch the "50 Days of Giving" campaign designed to raise awareness of charitable-giving and raise money for grants to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of America, CARE USA, Mercy Corps, Save The Children, The U.S. Fund for UNICEF. As the holidays approach, Legend is assisting with encouraging consumers to vote for one of the five charities at www.50daysofgiving.com. According to the press release, the charity that receives the most votes will "receive an additional $150,000 grant from Western Union."
A staunch advocate for humanitarianism, John Legend is also heavily involved in his own campaign. "I have a foundation called the "Show Me Campaign," and we raise awareness and raise money to help fight poverty," he explains, "We help them with agricultural support, buiidling school, building health clinics, giving them access to clean drinking water, so kinda the basic infrastructure and basic needs that they have to help them help themselves, and then we also work for an education reform here in America."
Although Legend is committed to giving back to communities in Africa and America, he has not shied away from the studio. The artist of the G.O.O.D. Music label is readying his return to recording. "Well, Kanye and I are gonna go into the studio and work on my next album," the Six-Time Grammy-Award Winner divulges, "My next solo project will executive produced by me and Kanye and we're gonna go into the studio soon to start working on it."
