Lance Gross Gets 'Green' With Toyota

By SékouWrites

“Seven out of ten new hybrids sold are a Toyota,” explained Jim Colon during Toyota’s recent Green Initiative launch.  It’s an amazing statistic and it’s a statement that speaks to more than just car sales and good business, it also speaks to the fact that Toyota has long been a leader in the world’s gradual shift toward a kinder, gentler planet.

The Green Initiative, which was launched at Bowie State University near Washington, DC,  is the latest point of Toyota’s eco-spear. It’s aimed at the perfect sweet spot for ensuring the future: our youth.  Traveling across the country to visit 25 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the program's goal is to encourage college students to adopt a more eco-friendly lifestyle.  Perhaps even more important, the Initiative makes it easy to understand what exactly "going green" means.  Sure, we all know the basics, like showers conserving more water than baths, but where Toyota’s Green Initiative excels is expanding the definition of what it means to be green.

Lance Gross, of the TBS sitcom House of Payne, is one of the Green Initiative’s Coalition members who is visiting HBCUs with Toyota. His approach for reducing his own carbon footprint is deceptively simple.  He makes the conscious choice to buy energy efficient light-bulbs, his LA condo is equipped with Goldstar energy rated devices and the kicker?

“I’m getting a hybrid on Monday,” he says with the trademark half-smile that has made him so popular with the ladies.  The hybrid headed toward Lance’s garage is the Toyota Highlander, one of the few SUVs in the world that can claim 28 eco-friendly highway miles per gallon.  Plus, the Highlander has more than enough street swag for a star of Lance’s caliber.

Other Coalition members include Zakiya Harris and Pandora Thomas, who run Earthseed LLC and Grind for the Green, a youth-driven organization that uses social marketing and events to promote the benefits of a greener lifestyle.  Not only do they put on unique events, such as a Talib Kewli concert where the sound stage is run by solar power, they also provide practical advice about green living, like buying clothes at consignment stores and choosing better food for its health benefits.  “There’s room for trees and texting,” joked Zakiya.  A sentiment that appeals to younger generations.

If the Green Initiative hits its mark, it will result in a whole crop of African-American youth who know how to live their lives in tune with Planet Earth and who are lining up to buy hybrid vehicles as a matter of course.  Jim Colon is willing to bet that most of those new hybrid purchases will still be a Toyota.

August Alsina Jokes About Jada Pinkett-Smith Rumors On Instagram

The August Alsina and Jada Pinkett-Smith affair rumors have been floating around the Internet for a while and the 26-year-old singer just poked fun at them. On Sunday (May 19), Alsina posted a picture of his swollen face to his Instagram blaming his allergies for his sickly appearance.

"A glimpse of my mood everyday life during allergy season," he wrote in his caption. "Everything on me is so swollen. I'm really trying to do music sh*t for y'all but my allergies are trying to take me out." Even though the This Thing Called Life artist explicitly stated the cause behind his puffy eyes, fans still took his post as an opportunity to twist the story just a little and Alsina joined in on the fun.

In his comments, fans were insinuating the possibility that Will Smith could have been the one to provide Alsina with his "new face." They joked that the Aladdin actor became fed up with Alsina after his comments regarding Smith's wife and actress, and decided to teach him a lesson. Alsina took the jokes with ease and even ended up changing his caption to match the comments he was receiving.

"Will finally caught up to me about all that Jada crap that was going on in the news & let's just say, he whooped my axs [sic]!! Guess that ALl training really paid off :)."

Alsina and Pinkett-Smith's friendship first garnered scrutiny when the singer made an Instagram post in honor of the Red Table Talk host's birthday. The post included a "deep" caption that many felt was inappropriate given the actress' marriage. The rumors were heightened with the release of his song "Nunya," in which he references an "actress putting on a show" by the name of Koren, which is Pinkett-Smith's middle name. He later denied that she was the inspiration behind the song.

Lil Nas X To Release First Project '7' In June

Lil Nas X recently released the music video for his single, "Old Town Road," and now the 20-year-old is ready to keep funneling out content for his fans. The Georgia rapper announced on Saturday (May 18) that his first EP, 7, will arrive in June. Lil Nas X didn't share much about what his "stans" and other listeners could expect from his upcoming project, but assumptions can be made from his Instagram posts featuring fellow artists.

He's flicked it up with the likes of Kelly Rowland, Usher, YBN Cordae, and Tory Lanez but it'll take for June to arrive to know if any of those artists will make appearances on his EP.

Despite the fact that his journey has been met with a few minor bumps in the road—the small hiccup with Dave East comes to mind— Lil Nas X has prevailed and there's no reason why 7 shouldn't see the same amount of success as "Old Town Road."

He's been applauded and celebrated by some of the hottest out right now. Being brought out on stage by Cardi B isn't a small feat, having Billy Ray Cyrus hop on his hit single is the icing on the cake, and what rounds this all out is the presence of A-listers like comedy legend, Chris Rock's cameo in his first music video. Lil Nas X is beating the game right now and can't nobody tell him nothin'.

Whitney Houston Hologram In Development Plus New Music

Seven years after Whitney Houston's death, the world-renowned singer's estate plans to keep her voice and legacy thriving. According to The New York Times, the "I Will Always Love You" singer's estate plan to work on a hologram and release new music.

Former manager and sister-in-law Pat Houston shared the details with the news site, stating the hologram sits at the top of the list of a forthcoming rollout of Houston's music. In addition to a touring hologram, talks of a Broadway production remains on the table. The revamping of Houston's business output arrives via Primary Wave Music Publishing, a marketing company that Houston's estate signed a contract with. The organization is entitled to 50 percent of Houston's assets like music and merchandise.

For Pat Houston, she hopes this new venture will remind the public of the highly-decorated artist's significance. "Before she passed, there was so much negativity around the name; it wasn't about the music anymore," Houston said. "People had forgotten how great she was. They let all the personal things about her life outweigh why they fell in love with her in the first place."

To reach this point of producing new avenues for Houston's memory to continue on, Pat Houston said "timing" was key. "It's been quite emotional for the past seven years," Houston said. "But now it's about being strategic." Details are still forthcoming.
