Young Dro Says T.I. Remains In High Spirits: ‘He Knows I’m A Winner’

It’s been a tumultuous year for Grand Hustle Records.

After starting things off on a high note with T.I. being released from a halfway house in March, the label was riding high off the success of B.o.B’s debut album, The Adventures Of Bobby Ray, one month later.

However, Clifford “T.I.” Harris wasn’t home a year before he was arrested again on minor drug charges and sentenced to an additional 11 months in prison for probation violation. Looking to fill the void while the Grand Hustle CEO serves his time, Young Dro recently sat down with VIBE following an Akoo photo shoot in Midtown Manhattan to speak on T.I.’s final days, again.

“I talked to T.I. a few days before he went in. We were just riding around, kickin’ it in the Maybach, just going over our plans for the future. But it wasn’t on no sad shit. He still in high spirits. ” Dro tells VIBE. “We were talking over shrimp and oyster like bosses.”

Dro has remained one of Tip’s closest allies through his troubled times. Also hailing from the Bankhead section of Atlanta, the Polo enthusiast knows exactly how deep loyalty runs amongst his crew.

“I called him again the night before he went in to just reassure him and let him know I’m P$C for life. He knows I’m a winner, and I’m going to make sure everything is in order until he comes back home,“ Dro adds. “T.I. is my homeboy for life. Everything I do is for Grand Hustle. He knows he made mistakes and he’s manning up to all of it.”

Dro is currently putting the finishing touches on his own sophomore effort, P.O.L.O. (an acronym for Playas Only Live Once). While Tip won’t be around to oversee the album’s completion—set for a first quarter 2011 release—Dro revealed that he’s saving space for Gucci Mane and T.I. verses on the LP’s first official track. —Mikey Fresh
