‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Wants To Regain Custody Of Daughter

Teen Mom Star Amber Portwood has plans to reunite with her 2-year-old daughter soon. She was released on bail on Tuesday after being charged with felony domestic battery and child neglect for fighting with her ex-fiancé Gary Shirley but despite that her lawyer confirmed with People.com that Portwood will soon regain custody of her toddler, Leah.

“It’s my understanding that Leah will be placed back with her,” he told the website. As for her relationship with Shirley, she is not to have any contact with him,” but Schembs added, “To my knowledge, they’re on good terms.”

Portwood was arrested on Monday and held in jail for 24 hours in connection with incidents that were shown on Teen Mom. She was charged with two felony counts of domestic battery, one felony count of neglect of a dependent and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery.

E! News reports that Shirley wants to work to get the protective order banning Portwood from seeing Shirley and their daughter lifted.

“The lady from [Child Protective Services] is going to go there and testify on Amber’s behalf,” Portwood’s brother told the website. “Gary is really upset. He wants to testify on Amber’s behalf, too. He doesn’t want the no-contact rule at all. He was trying to get a lawyer to fight it because the state of Indiana is trying to make Gary testify on their behalf.”

The 20-year-old mother opened up to Dr. Drew about her behavior on the series during the reunion special for Teen Mom 2, saying, “I have no clue why I hurt Gary. I sort of do, but it’s kind of beyond myself. I can’t help myself. I have to get help and then help myself. I never notice how bad I am until I see it. And I feel so terrible. And it’s like, did I really do that? The people who are around me, how do they feel? I don’t remember it being that bad at the time. How did Gary feel? What the hell was I doing?” [Via MTV]

Hopefully Portwood gets the psychological help she needs. That’s what the real court order should have been.
