Grammy Recap: Stargate Talks Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ Winning ‘Best Dance Recording’

Coming off two Grammy wins for her contribution to Jay-Z’s 2010 Grammy Award winning single “Run This Town”, Rihanna took home another trophy at this year’s ceremony.

Earning the title for ‘Best Dance Recording’, RiRi, along with producers Stargate’s hit single ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ beat Lady Gaga and La Roux in the highly contested category.

Stargate’s Erik Hermansen spoke on the Grammy win from the press room at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

“Commercial success doesn’t always equate to winning a Grammy. Competition was stiff—I think the Robyn record is great. Lady Gaga was Gaga was there,” says the producer . “Rihanna came to us before we started recording this record and said ‘I feel great about myself. I want to go back to having fun, I want to make happy and up-tempo records.’

Hermansen also says the singer picked the single, prior her to even stepping in the vocal booth.

“Rated R—there was no up-tempo at all. We went back in the studio and this was the first record we made.”
