V Exclusive: Grammy Award Winners La Roux Flattered By Rappers Remixing ‘In For The Kill’; Spoke With Game

One of the most sampled songs by rappers in 2010 came from electronic duo, La Roux. The English electropop team’s song “In For The Kill (Skream Remix)” was interpolated by West Coast rapper Game for his flip, dubbed “The Kill.”

But, after the song leaked prematurely every rapper with an internet connection decided to add their oft tiresome lyrics to an instrumental ‘remix’ of the group’s tune.

VIBE checked in with the group’s mouthpiece, Elly Jackson, after La Roux won their first Grammy Award for “best dance album” at this year’s ceremony. The singer/producer explained that she’s quite flattered by all the attention from hip-hop artists.

“We gave Game permission to use Skream for a remix but obviously it got leaked and other rappers jumped on it,” she told VIBE. “I don’t mind it all, it’s great exposure for us. It’s nice that people like it so much as to where they want to use it. I just wish our version would of got to radio first [laughs].

La Roux’s co-producer Ben Langmaid stated that the group’s debut album was largely constructed in his living room with minimal equipment. —Mikey Fresh
