The Breakdown: Big K.R.I.T. Previews ‘Return Of 4Eva’
Big K.R.I.T. gives context to the leaked recoreds from his anticipated Return Of 4Ever project, dropping online March 22
“Dreamin” was me explaining everything that has happened. Even from the XXL cover, I don’t feel like I deserved any of this; I just feel blessed. I followed my dreams and thank God that it all kind of worked out. I still have a lot more work to do, but if I don’t sell an album or if my career ends now, I still succeeded in putting my music out on a platform where people can hear it.
“Time Machine” is just showcasing the Southern grit. Old school whips are like time machines to me. Like the ’86 Monte Carlo. Pick me up and take me back to ’86 the year I was born. I’m just running with topics and subject matter. There are no samples, to show people I can do beats without samples.
“American Rapstar” is a song about how it’s really hard for an artist to outgrow his music. Like whatever image you put out there becomes something you can get sucked up it. And most of time the artists get caught up in drugs or alcohol or financial situations or whatever it is that makes you an American rap star. So I’m talking about how to stay grounded and being a human being when it comes to putting yourself out in the world. It’s important to be yourself so you won’t fall victim to certain things.
