The Braxton Sisters Discuss The Importance Of Fatherhood
The Braxtons have revealed a lot about themselves on the now popular show, Braxton Family Values and fans couldn't get enough. Viewers laughed but also endured some tough moments with the family, like when the sisters were trying to patch up their relationship with their estranged father. However, despite the tension and how upset they may be with their father, in the spirit of family unity they have decided to continue trying to work things out.VIBE caught up with Tamar, Towanda and Trina to get some insight on how they're patching things up with dad, just in time for Father's Day.
Towanda: I want all of my sisters to try to rebuild the relationship with my dad because I think that it’s very important, especially with that state that we’re in, in our lives with us having kids. I just want my dad to be a part of all of our children’s lives and Tamar's too, because she doesn’t have kids. In fact, I just mailed daddy a card from me and my whole family.
Trina: Even though our reltathionship mnight be slightly estranged right now, we cannot negate that our father was always a great father to us and he was there for us while our parents were married, so we still have to respect and revere him as the father that he was to us as young adults.
Tamar: I was just getting the gift box wrapped right before this interview becase I'm on my way to Fedex to send his [Father's Day] gift. At the end of the day he’s still our father and you have to respect and honor your mother and father and that’s what we do regardless. Just because other people aren’t doing the right thing--you always have to do the right thing. God forbid if something ever happened, you want to make sure you don’t have any regrets because you did the right thing. And the reason why we want to rekindle the relationship with our dad is because that’s something we truly cherish and honor. A lot of people didn’t have those 15 yrs or 20 yrs that we had with our dad--the wonderful years that he was there for us, not only just providing for us but he was there for us emotionally too at some point. And that’s the part that we honor and that’s why it’s so important to us because I feel like once you've had that [relationship] you can have it again.
