Presenting Mrs. LaLa Anthony, The First Lady & Her Royal Court

Recently LaLa Anthony-Vasquez was dubbed the “First Lady of The NBA” by the New York Times, in an article highlighting her marriage to the NBA New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. The two have been married since 2010 as cameras filmed the ceremony for VH1 in their reality show, LaLa’s Full Court Wedding.

The Times asked:

Given their combined star power, good looks and obvious ambition, the question must be asked: Are Mr. and Mrs. Anthony campaigning to be the next Posh and Becks (Victoria and David Beckham)? Or perhaps a family-friendly version of Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom?

There is no doubt the couple is very stunning and persistent in promoting their brand. We all know with much fame comes the many critiques and scrutiny. The article also alludes back to a YouTube video when Mrs. Anthony was angrily escorted out of a Mavericks game in 2009 after confrontation against rowdy fans. On “The Wendy Williams Show” in March, Mrs. Anthony jokingly complained that none of the Knicks wives had introduced themselves to her yet pending her efforts.

“A lot of times with basketball players, their wives, and I’m not criticizing, but their life is just about the man,” said Mrs. Anthony. “What time is he getting home, why hasn’t he called me?”

Agreeing with the Times in referring to Mrs. Anthony as the NBA First Lady, here are some real honorable mention basketball wives, and not the ones featured on VH1:

  • Khloe Kardashian, wife of Lamar Odom: The reality famed TV star is just as focused on branding and expanding her power. Even before the marriage, like Mrs. Anthony, Khloe was taking care of herself and making moves. Seeing her candidness on television and interaction with her peers, Khloe is the down to earth chick we cannot get enough of.
  • Jackie Christie, wife of Doug Christie: Jackie has remained true to herself throughout her marriage with Doug Christie. She has even published material about fostering a healthy relationship. The couple re-marries every year on their wedding anniversary, complete with guests and festivities. There’s no way you cannot respect Mrs. Christie and her hustle. And not to mention home girl looks like she’ll kick your butt if you come at her sideways.
  • Vanessa Bryant, wife of Kobe Bryant: By default, we love Mrs. Bryant. Maybe because of sympathy though. Before the sudden fascination with basketball wives, Vanessa has always been viewed as one of the most interesting wives; mainly because of her life constantly being played out in the media. Even though her personality doesn’t warrant friendliness, she’s labeled the Queen B among basketball wives. She would definitely be in charge of the girls.

If you could add to the list, what other REAL basketball wives would you add to the court?
