What She Say? Rihanna: “I Want To Set The Right Example And, At The Same Time, Live My Life”

Our red-haired Vixen Rihanna graces the 2011 September cover of Glamour in an attention-grabbing pair of sequined shorts. But once you get past the Bajan’s booty shot, the interview is quite revealing. The 23-year-old star touches on topics new (bestie friendship with Katy Perry and loving life’s challenges), as well as old (Chris Brown and liking dominant men in bed).

Something that stuck out in the interview was her thoughts about being a role model. She had this to say about the matter:

“In the beginning of my career, it was really strict for me. I couldn’t wear pink or red lipstick; it was just bizarre. We had a young fan base, and they were trying to keep me fresh. But I just really wanted to be myself. I wanted to be sassy, the attitude, all these things that I am.”

“I want to set the right example and, at the same time, live my life….I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art.”

Clap, clap, bravo! Rihanna’s comments about being a role model were awesomely on point. Nowadays, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry (along with RiRi, of course) are often criticized for living their lives the way they want to; however, they’re human. Vixens have the right to be who they want to be, just as these male artists do.
Do you agree with Rihanna’s comments?
