A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg Discusses Reunion Album
After popping back into the music world with a documentary (Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest) after a slight hiatus, A Tribe Called Quest may be considering releasing another album.
Film director Michael Rapaport spoke with member Phife Dawg about whether or not the group would reunite for a new album and fulfill their contract with Jive Records. Phife couldn't promise a new album, but he confirmed being on good terms with Q-Tip and the rest of the group members.
"I know we're friends at the end of the day, and Q-Tip and I definitely mended our friendship, so that's the start. You've got to start off with that, 'cause if we're not cool and we force ourselves to do a so-called album that we owe [Jive]...it will leak into the music and our fans are going to be disappointed," said Phife. "I'd rather not do it if we're going to disappoint our fans. But if it's all seriousness to it and we can get the job done, then let's do it."
13 years after the release of A Tribe Called Quest's last album "Love Movement" (1998), it sounds like Phife is on board for a return. Guess we'll find out soon if the other members are up for a new creative challenge. --Aliya Faust
