Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks Star in Remake of ‘Sparkle’

Making her first appearance on the big screen since The Preacher’s Wife (1996), Whitney Houston is set to play in the remake of Sparkle. Along side of her will be American Idol winner Jordin Sparks playing the lead role as a singer.

The 1976 musical is about the trials and tribulations of a girl group from Harlem who reach their fame in the 1950s. Slightly inspired by the story of Diana Ross and The Supremes, Sparkle highlights one of the sister’s solo moves. But, there’s a twist! The group becomes threatened by jealousy and addictions.

Comedian/actor Mike Epps will also be featured in the movie. His character, Satin, marries one of Sparkle’s sisters and gets her hooked on drugs.
