Black Girls Rock! Tracee Ellis Ross, Melanie Fiona and More

The curtains have closed and the venue is empty, but last Saturday night (Oct. 15) was abuzz with several A-list celebs. Housing one of the biggest award shows to celebrate the power and strength of black women, NY’s Paradise Theater welcomed Black Girls Rock!, an organization founded and headed by the lovely Beverly Bond, and an evening of inspirational tales, music and fellowship. We cried, we danced and we celebrated the night away!

The night was a star-studded affair. Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King kept us entertained as the hosts for the evening, as well as several performances by legendary female artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Estelle, Mary J. Blige and more.

The focus of the night was on the renowned honorees–Taraji P. Henson, Tatyana Ali, Angela Davis, Pastor Shirley Caesar–and other phenomenal black women in business, entertainment and politics like the President of the WNBA Laurel J. Richie, and icons Imani Walker and Malika Saada Saar. The female empowerment, black pride and love of talented black girls were contagious. Everyone left knowing that black girls truly do rock!

The goal of the evening was to promote the endless possibilities and accomplishments of black women. The message was geared toward young girls, promising them a future of success that comes from hard work, confidence and determination. With all of the poor media attention black women receive, Beverly Bond and BET sought out to cut through the negative and create constructive messages for our young black girls. Their goal was achieved.

For those of you who weren’t at the Paradise Theater Saturday evening, do not fret. Black Girls Rock! will make its network premiere on BET Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 8PM.
