Teedra Moses Talks New Album, Being A Recluse and Feeling 'Left To The Side' At Times In Maybach Music Group

It's not easy being the sole female singer in a camp stuffed with machismo, but Teedra Moses is handling the adjustment with grace. The 35-year-old R&B underdog, who inked a deal with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group back in March, is finally ready to switch her spotlight back on after six years of laying low. But even with the biggest bawse in entertainment counseling her moves, Teedra's not intimidated to swivel that steering wheel. VIBE: You're coming back into the game when the musical environment has switched up a bit. More rappers are singing and more singers are rapping. Should we expect any bars from Teedra in the near future?
TEEDRA MOSES: Nah, I do what I’m good at. I can write a rap and give it to somebody to spit, but I’m not a rapper. I’ve been gone for so long and when I say gone for so long, I really haven’t cause I’ve been out here grinding, but people don’t know that, so I’ve been gone from their eyesight. So if I was a fan of Teedra Moses and she came back and started rapping, I would be like 'This bitch is crazy!' As much as I’m self-absorbed, I do consider the people that have been rocking with me for what I do. There’s a couple of tracks on the mixtape where I’ll spit a verse or something like that, but it’s just me really having fun and playing. I just try and stick to what I’m good at. And you won’t see me on the cinema either [laughs].

No movies roles, word? I thought all artists would be into that for the fatter check.
You would have to give me the role of the single mother that’s taking care of her kids by herself because I can play that role. You have to give me the role of the singer, struggling to make her career rise because I can play that role. But if you want me to play the stepford wife, it won’t work because I don’t know nothing about it. I’m just very honest with myself. Acting is a craft. Rapping is a craft. I get annoyed when people think they can just throw AutoTune to their voice and do what I do. So I’m not going to disrespect what other people do. I’m just trying to make this music crack.

The new year is approaching which means Self Made Vol. 2 plugs will soon be en route. How's the recording process been this second go-round?
I’ve been kind of recluse and caught up working on my album so I’ve been really focus on that. Working on my album is a process that really, I keep to myself and I hope [my labelmates] don’t take it any personal way. It’s just something like I don’t… not that I will become what other people are from me being around them but I just try and stay focus on what I'm trying to push on myself. So I’ve been very focus on working on my project, I haven’t really being involved with [Self Made Vol. 2] as much.

So there's a possibility that we won't hear you on the album at all?
There is a possibility that I may not. I haven't done any work for it, no.

I can understand that as woman you may need to go into hiding to really get into your zone.
And I’m a totally different genre and trying to stay true to what I do that is different. I'm just trying to stay focused.

Has Ross been supportive of your seclusion?

Nipsey Hussle Was Reportedly Being Investigated For Gang Ties Prior To His Death

According to reports, Nipsey Hussle was reportedly under investigation due to gang ties prior to his fatal death in late-March.

Per The New York Times, there was an open investigation being conducted by the LAPD and the city attorney’s office, which is reportedly still ongoing. The Victory Lap rapper’s property– including his clothing store The Marathon– are being looked into, in an effort to prove that the strip mall that Nip owned was subject to gang activity and violence.

“As part of the investigation, the city pressured Hussle’s former landlords to evict the rapper and his associates,” the report reads. “Instead, the landlords sold the property earlier this year to Hussle and a group of investors for $2.5 million, according to public records.”

Despite the efforts, the Los Angeles community and the music world continue to mourn the death of the 33-year-old Grammy nominee. However, his memory and voice lives on both on wax and in the real world.

“Everybody knows that Nipsey was pretty much the founder of the idea to bring everyone together who, you know, may individually be able to do great things and make a significant impact on their own in their communities,” T.I. said of his fallen friend. “But for us to come together, we can impact so, so many more communities and spread our efforts so much wider.”

Charlottesville Killer Receives Life Sentence Plus 419 Years

James Alex Fields Jr will spend the rest of his life behind bars for driving his car into a crowd of counter-protestors in Charlottesville, Va., which injured many and killed 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

According to reports, Judge Richard Moore sentenced the 22-year-old white supremacist to life in prison plus 419 years. Fields, who reportedly had a picture of Adolf Hitler framed by his bed, drove from Ohio to attend the 2017 Unite The Right Rally with fellow racists and neo-Nazi's to protest the removal of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee statue.

The event also drew Heyer and other counter-protestors who marched against white nationalism. The violence forced local authorities to declare an unlawful assembly and begin the process of demobilizing everyone. Later on the same day, Fields drove his car into a crowd killing Heyer and hurting others.

The event caused already bubbling racial tensions in America to spill over when during a press conference Donald Trump blamed "both sides" for the turmoil.

DMX Is Cleared In The Case Of A 'Stolen' Corvette

Rapper DMX will reportedly not face any charges after it was believed his was driving a “stolen” vehicle back in May.

The rapper reportedly left a Los Angeles restaurant in another person’s car, after the valet accidentally gave him and his entourage the wrong set of keys. The valet mix-up created a potential issue for X, as authorities believed that driving a stolen vehicle was grounds for a probation violation as it pertained to his tax evasion case. Police reportedly were able to retrieve the vehicle, and no one was arrested.

“DMX met with his probation officer and everything is fine,” the MC’s attorney, Murray Richman, told TMZ. “We're told the rapper's in the clear as far as a potential probation violation goes.”

As far as his professional life goes, DMX reportedly joined the cast of Chronicle Of A Serial Killer back in April. He also gave a rousing sermon at Kanye West’s Sunday Service performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the spring.

“Doors that were once closed are now open for me,” he said. “I am God’s favorite child…I have supernatural increases and promotion. Like the restoration of everything the devil has stolen from me. This is the day, time, and moment for me to experience the free grace of God.”
