Oklahoma State Women’s Basketball Coach, Others Killed In Plane Crash

The Oklahoma State community is in mourning today, after a plane crashed last night carrying women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna. The pilot, Olin Branstetter and his wife were also killed. The cause of the crash will take several months to determine. The New York Times reports that the crash comes ten years after two Oklahoma State men’s basketball players and eight others were killed in a plane crash coming from a game at the University of Colorado.

Oklahoma State released the following statement:

“The Oklahoma State family is devastated by this tragedy, Kurt was an exemplary leader and a man of character who had a profound impact on his student-athletes. He was an outstanding coach and a wonderful person. Coach Budke elevated our women’s basketball program to new levels of success. He and his staff raised our profile in the nation’s toughest conference.” –Krystal Holmes
