Fabolous Speaks on Giving Back With '3 Kings Coat Drive'
To celebrate the end of a one-month coat drive across New York’s boroughs, Brooklyn rapper Fabolous, NY Giant Ahmad Bradshaw and radio personality Angie Martinez came together Thursday evening at Dr. Jays to help bring awareness toward the efforts of New York Cares.
In front of fans and the community, Fabolous spoke on his impact as a hip-hop artist in hopes to boost declining donations to the non-profit organization. New York cares helps provides winter coats for needy New Yorkers just in time for the holiday season.
The 1st Annual 3 Kings Coats Drive apart of Fabolous’ A Fabolous Way Foundation has already garnered support from other hip-hop stars such as D.M.C. of Run-D.M.C, Trey Songz, Ne-Yo and Bangladesh.
“I want to able to use my influence to give people that push in the back,” Fabolous said. “Everybody has coats in their closets they wouldn’t dare wear and it can help somebody else, even get a younger crowd who also has coats in abundance to chime in and help somebody this winter.”
Fab’s A Fabolous Way started this year as a means to give back to the community by empowering and installing a culture of achievement within the city. The 3 Kings Coats Drive worked with Dr Jays and HOT 97, who have created donation centers in all retail locations throughout the New York City and New Jersey area.
Fab said he knew of NY Cares’ groundwork and their contributions to the community, which encouraged him to help reach their goal of 100,000 coats by December 31. Last year, the organization had a total of 75,000 coats but felt short to about 58,000. Although the coat drive is officially over, community members can still donate coats to NY Cares to help bring warmth to the city.
“It’s really not a thing where we say we are going to do this once. I would like to continue with everyone to help reach their goals,” Fabolous said.--Eric Diep
