“Girl Interrupted”

[Amy and I] went to the same school. It was around different times, but at the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology, you notice standouts. Amy Winehouse was beyond authentic. She sacrificed and lived according to who she was. In the day and age that we live, it’s so easy to succumb to the madness. Being who you are, it’s not easy.
You have to take yourself to a mental space that puts you somewhere else. Makes you stop feeling. That’s the sacrifice she made and she sacrificed herself. It’s weird for her to not be here. She wasn’t just this blue-eyed soul white girl who came out of nowhere with this little bit of sass and swag. It was real, you can’t. That’s not something you can learn, that’s something you are. And looking at [her VIBE cover], she’ll never die. She’ll never die. –Marsha Ambrosius; singer; Liverpool, England
