The 5 Most Touching Lines From Jay-Z’s ‘Glory’ Track

When Jay-Z released his track “Glory” last Monday, it was hard to suppress the “awws” after hearing the heartfelt dedication to his baby girl Blue Ivy Carter.  Hov shows everyone a softer, more emotional side of himself. On the track, he opens up about Blue and the hardships he and Bey faced in conceiving her.  The three-minute and forty-two second long track is laced with more than a few tearjerkers. Here are five lines from “Glory” that might have you reaching for your tissue box! — Jazmine Gray

Jay-Z x B.I.C. “Glory”

1. Line: “Baby I paint the sky blue, my greatest creation was you.”

What makes it touching: From the very beginning, Jay directly mentions baby Blue. As a multi-platinum selling artist with fourteen Grammys under his belt, he still feels his greatest creation is his daughter.

2. Line: “False alarms and false starts all made better by the sound of your heart.”

What makes it touching: This is his first allusion to Bey’s problems with not being able to conceive but the birth of Blue resolved the pain he previously felt.

3. Line: “The most beautifulest thing in this world is daddy’s little girl.”

What makes it touching: Blue, merely a day old at the time, had already captured her father’s heart.

4. Line: “Last time the miscarriage was so tragic, we was afraid you’d disappear, but nah, baby, you magic.”

What makes it touching: Jay reveals that Bey had a miscarriage prior to Blue, and lets us in on the couple’s personal experiences and fears of Blue not surviving. That alone evokes quite a few emotions. Also calling baby Blue “magic” because of it might just open up the tear ducts.

5. Line: “You’re a child of destiny, you’re the child of my destiny. You’re my child with the child from Destiny’s Child, that’s a hell of a recipe”

What makes it touching: This line not only makes reference to Blue or Jay-Z but also ties in Momma Bey by labeling Blue the child of his destiny with the “child from Destiny’s child.” With that kind of a “recipe,” it’s sort of hard not to be touched.
