Every year, we look forward to hearing new music from female artists so we can put something new on our music playlists. The next big thing in music is always setting trends in the fashion world. We picked four up and coming female artist that are becoming trendsetters as well as making hits we want to listen to.
The shoe lovin’ singer grabbed our attention in 2011 with her debut single “I Only Want To Give It To You” and performing at Black Girls Rock! Ms. Varner started 2012 by releasing a mixtape called Conversational Lush as a preview to her upcoming debut album, Perfectly Imperfect. Elle’s curls are always on point, and she is always spotted wearing colorful, girly garments. She is a soulful style maven that isn’t afraid to rock wooden frames and show stopping outfits.
Karl Largerfeld can’t get enough of her. Lady Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti likes to dress her. I could only be talking about Azealia Banks. It was in late 2011 that Azealia Banks released her first single “212.” In 2012, we are anticipating to hear and see the video for her second single “Liquorice.” With a nickname like Young Rapunzel, Azealia has a love for collecting wigs. She is a lyricist with a tomboy style worth watching.
Rye Rye has been in the music scene for a while as an underground artist under the guidance of M.I.A. Last year, she starred in one of the first designer collection music videos for Prabal Gurung ‘s Spring 2011 collection. However, this year she plans to release her first album titled Go! Pop! Bang! When it comes to fashion, Rye Rye wears high-end apparel and clothing from independent designers like Natty Paint. She is a dancing rapper with a love for hairstyles featuring almost every color under the rainbow.
She may have started out as a model in Australia, but she has been rapping since she was 14 years old. In 2011, she released her mixtape, Ignorant Art featuring nine tracks to preview her sound. The 21-year-old plans to release he debut album The New Classic in summer 2012. She mixes old school glamour with a street influence. She may not look like your average hip-hop artist, but we can’t wait to see what she does next.
