Curren$y Releases 5-Track ‘Here’ EP

It seems like a nutty idea: put out a new project while everyone’s fixated on the Super Bowl. But for someone who’s been keeping it relatively low key these days, we’re happy to welcome some new music from the Jet Life general.

Curren$y keeps things simple on Here, with just five tracks and only one feature to accompany him on the EP. The project starts with Spitta going in over a dismal beat, which contains dizzying organ keys. The somber tone of the track carries on throughout the project, but lightens up by the end. Spitta also offers us a Kanye instrumental, soulful samples, joyless violins and mellow vibes over his next few tracks.

“Real music lasts forever, this is how we never die,” raps Curren$y. It’s not lyrically phenomenal by any means, but still impressive considering it was all recorded within a few hours (we think).

The first solo project since the release of his Jets World Order compilation is a nice teaser as to what the crew has lined up for 2012. –Jolie Sanchez
