Frank Ocean May Face Lawsuit Over ‘Eagles’ Sample

Movies & TV

The seemingly well-behaved ‘golden child’ of the Odd Future clan, Frank Ocean, may not be so golden after all. The singer/songwriter has reportedly been threatened with legal action by Eagles founder Don Henley if he is caught singing “American Weding” live.

Ocean sampled the rock band’s record “Hotel California” which the band won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1977. Ocean’s 2011 track was feawtured on his debut mixtape, Nostalgia, but the sample was not cleared with Henley or other members of the Eagles band.

“Don Henley is apparently intimidated by my rendition of “Hotel California,” Ocean said (via Rap-Up). Despite a possible lawsuit looming over his head, Ocean seems to take it as a compliment. “He threatened to sue if I performed it again,” he said. “I think that’s fuckin awesome.”

Ocean is still slated to have an even better year than 2011. The Odd Future affiliate will be performing at Coachella this April. He’s also gearing up for the release of a new Odd Future compilation, The OF Tape Vol. 2, due out March 20. –Johnathan Cruse
